(I'm moving my blog to this new domain...act like you saw this in February lol).
Greetings readers. Happy February and Happy Black History Month! Hope you’ve all been good since we last talked 😃. As a Black girl in the current state of the world, keeping up with all the injustices has given my mental health a critical blow. Which led to the idea for this new post: sharing some of my favourite Black cartoons that perfectly educate about the Black experience. Keep scrolling for some of my top picks.
The Proud Family (Disney Channel)
I couldn’t find the Oscar Black History Month gif but I’m sure you know it
Alright so y’all already know I had to start with the GOAT. This cartoon radiated Black excellence episode after episode. The theme song, the characters, the voice actors, the storylines and lessons!! Episodes such as the family exchange with the Muslim family, the Kwanzaa celebration and equality for girls to join the boys sports team taught me from a tender age at how different yet valid our experiences are and that Black people are not a monolith. THEY EVEN HAVE A BLACK HISTORY MONTH EPISODE!!! (Season 1 Episode 15 – I Have a Dream)🤯😅 . I’m still upset Disney Channel cancelled this great cartoon.
The Boondocks (Adult Swim)
I personally wasn’t allowed to watch this as child but its on my list too 😆
Ah yes the Black family living in a white, suburban neighbourhood. Although an adult cartoon, its completely relevant and educational as its a satirical comedy. Huey Freeman (the one with the afro) always provides the ‘voice of reason’ and the no nonsense attitude that keeps his family and strangers in check. The show is especially on my list for its various pop culture references, political commentary and characters’ antics in response to the stereotypes and racism (Like Uncle Ruckus’ coonery 💀).
Class of 3000 (Cartoon Network)

The music from this show went very hard🔥
I love music, I really do. Now when you have a cartoon with purpose + good music + one of my favourite artistes, you definitely have my attention. Class of 3000 takes you on crazy adventures of formerly retired superstar now music teacher Sunny Bridges and his eccentric students. Sunny is based on real life superstar Andre 3000, who is also a producer of the show. The cast, the music, the diversity and the life lessons really made this cartoon a special gem in the industry. (I’m personally not ashamed to say I have the theme song and other songs on my devices😎😅 ).
Static Shock (The WB)
My first superhero crush 🥰😍
I might as well mention this fact from now I prefer the DC Comic Universe over the Marvel Universe (I still very much enjoy both tho lol). Static Shock follows teenager Virgil Hawkins who develops electricity⚡ based powers after exposure to a mutagen gas. He’s a high school student with a super hero secret identity (regular teenager tings). Like The Proud Family, Static Shock regularly touches on various social issues and life lessons within the storylines. Topics such as racism, gang violence and family dynamics helped to educate me at a tender age how different our lives can be based on the simple factor of geographical location. One episode clearly shows Reggie’s (Virgil’s best friend who happens to be white) dad being a whole racist. Young me was shook that he was so bold with it 🤯.
Here ends another blogpost! I hope you enjoyed it and I mentioned one of your favs. Comment below other favourites of yours! Until then, enjoy this throwback of me and a Static Shock cosplayer at last year’s Japanese Embassy Expo.
